Air Clearance & Clearance Letters

Verification Before Containment Is Removed

Once asbestos abatement is complete, the work area must be properly assessed before containment is dismantled or the area is returned to normal use.

Balco Environmental’s qualified person begins with a detailed visual inspection. The work area is checked to confirm that asbestos-containing materials included in the scope have been removed or controlled, waste and visible debris have been cleared, and the required cleanup has been completed.

For high-risk asbestos work performed inside a containment, clearance air sampling is conducted after cleanup and before the containment is removed. Air-sampling equipment collects a measured volume of air, and the sample is analyzed to determine the airborne fibre concentration.

In British Columbia, clearance results for these high-risk containments must not exceed 0.02 fibres per millilitre before the containment can be dismantled.

When the applicable inspection and air-clearance requirements have been satisfied, Balco provides written clearance documentation outlining:

• The project and area assessed
• The visual inspection completed
• The air-sampling method and locations, when applicable
• The analytical results
• Whether the applicable clearance requirements were met

Clearance documentation gives property owners, contractors and project managers a clear record that the required post-abatement assessment was completed.

OUR AIR CLEARANCE PROCESS

VISUAL INSPECTION

The work area is carefully inspected to confirm that the required cleanup has been completed and no visible dust or debris remains.

CLEARANCE AIR SAMPLING

When required, air samples are collected inside the containment before it is dismantled.

LABORATORY ANALYSIS

Samples are submitted for analysis to determine whether the applicable clearance requirements have been met.

CLEARANCE DOCUMENTATION

You receive written documentation summarizing the inspection, sampling details, laboratory results and clearance status.

CLEARANCE DOCUMENTATION YOU CAN RELY ON

Once the visual inspection and any required clearance air sampling are complete, Balco Environmental provides clear written documentation of the assessment and results.

Your documentation may include:

• The project location and area assessed
• The scope of the visual inspection
• Air-sampling locations and methods, when applicable
• Laboratory analytical results
• Confirmation of whether the applicable clearance requirements were met

If the area meets the required criteria, Balco issues clearance documentation confirming the results. If it does not, the findings are documented so additional cleaning or corrective work can be completed before reassessment.

Clear results. Documented findings.
