Hazardous Materials Survey
KNOW WHAT’S PRESENT BEFORE WORK BEGINS
Renovation, demolition, restoration and maintenance work can disturb building materials that contain asbestos, lead or other hazardous substances. A hazardous materials survey identifies potential hazards before work begins, helping protect workers, occupants and everyone involved in the project.
Balco Environmental tailors each survey to the property and the planned scope of work. Our qualified surveyor reviews the project details, completes a visual inspection of the applicable areas, documents suspect materials and safely collects representative samples where required.
Samples are submitted to an accredited third-party laboratory for analysis. Once the results are available, we prepare a clear written report identifying the materials assessed, sample locations, laboratory findings and recommended next steps.
Surveys may be limited to a specific renovation or restoration area, or expanded to cover an entire building before demolition. Because concealed materials may not be visible during the initial inspection, additional testing may be required if previously inaccessible areas are opened during the project.
A properly completed survey gives owners, property managers and contractors the information they need to plan the work safely and avoid unexpected hazardous-material discoveries after the project has started.
TYPES OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SURVEYS
The appropriate survey depends on the property and the work being planned.
LIMITED OR PRE-RENOVATION SURVEY
Focuses on the specific rooms, materials or areas that may be disturbed during renovation, restoration or maintenance work.
PRE-DEMOLITION SURVEY
Provides a broader assessment of the building before demolition. Additional investigation may be required to assess materials concealed behind walls, ceilings, flooring or other finishes.
BUILDING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INVENTORY
Documents hazardous materials within an
occupied building so owners and property managers can inform contractors and help protect workers during future maintenance or repair work.
Our qualified surveyor will review your project and recommend the appropriate inspection scope.
